South African medtech startup, VitruvianMD, raises $1.25 million in recent Seed Extension II funding round. With this funding, the startup aims to further develop its AI-powered diagnostic technology, effectively addressing the challenge of diagnostician shortages throughout Sub-Sahara Africa. Read more.

Nigerian health tech startups Pharmarun and 8Medical are among the 15 companies selected for the inaugural cohort of the Impact Hub Lagos Catalyst Program. In partnership with the Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council, this program will offer the selected startups funding and comprehensive training, aiding their expansion and contributing to the growth of the Lagos innovation ecosystem. Read more.

Uburu Health, a Nigerian health tech startup, partners with leading Nigerian institutions and Stanford University to harness AI for the advancement of personalized dermatology care. Given the scarcity of AI models trained on varied datasets, this collaboration aims to curate an inclusive skin lesion dataset, subsequently training and testing the model across diverse populations. Read more.
